CHAMPIONS supports ODM phone case projects for buyers who need more than logo placement on an existing item. The process turns a market brief, sketch, reference sample or functional requirement into a manufacturable case, an approved sample and a controlled bulk-production specification.

When an ODM project is the right fit

Use ODM development when the required structure, material combination, protective feature, stand, magnetic layout, texture or packaging system is not available as a standard product. If an existing case only needs a logo, color or private label package, the faster OEM route may be sufficient.

Concept and feasibility review

Start with the target phone models, customer group, retail price position, protection goal, key feature, material preference, launch date and expected order volume. Our team reviews the brief for fit, wall thickness, camera and button protection, charging access, magnet position, assembly method and likely tooling requirements. Trade-offs are identified before a physical sample is made.

ODM development stages

  1. Project brief: define models, users, features, appearance, packaging and commercial target.
  2. Structure review: evaluate material, manufacturability, tooling and assembly.
  3. Drawing or prototype: prepare the agreed development output for review.
  4. Sample and testing: check fit, function, appearance and packaging against the brief.
  5. Change control: record revisions and approve the final sample.
  6. Production handoff: lock the approved specification, inspection points and packing instructions.

Materials, finishes and packaging

ODM programs may use TPU, PC, liquid silicone, leather, magnetic components or combined structures. The material affects flexibility, impact behavior, surface feel, printing, assembly and mold design. Branding and retail packaging should be reviewed during development rather than added after the product is finished, because label placement, insert size and carton configuration can affect the final specification.

Sampling and revision control

Each sample round should have a clear purpose and written feedback. Mark the version, list the requested changes and identify who approved fit, appearance and packaging. When several phone models are involved, confirm whether the same change applies to every mold. This reduces ambiguity when the project moves from development to production.

Production readiness and quality planning

Before bulk production, confirm the approved reference sample, model list, color, logo file, packaging artwork, quantity, inspection standard and shipping marks. Incoming material checks, in-line process checks and pre-shipment inspection are then tied to the approved specification. Any buyer-specific test or documentation requirement should be agreed before the production schedule is released.

ODM phone case FAQ

What can I use to start an ODM project?

A written brief, sketch, 3D file, product photo or physical reference sample can start the discussion. Include the target models, key function, expected quantity, destination market and launch timing.

How is ODM different from OEM?

OEM usually customizes an existing structure through color, logo or packaging. ODM includes product or structural development before sampling and production.

When are MOQ and lead time confirmed?

They are confirmed after the structure, tooling, material, model mix, finish and packaging scope are clear. New molds and multiple sample rounds require more planning than an existing structure.
